The Criminal Drug Analyst will oversee the Vermont Drug Monitoring Initiative (DMI), a program that delivers data-driven responses to Vermont's drug crime. Coordinate, develop, and maintain relationships with in and out-of-state partners in law enforcement and public health to identify information gaps and develop new approaches to strengthening intelligence.  Manage the collection and analysis of drug-related data (e.g., arrests, seizures, overdoses).  Produce finished operational and strategic drug intelligence reports using both open and sensitive information from complex sources.  Utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to track drug activity in real-time.  Experience with programming languages and statistical software suites such as SAS.  Host quarterly drug-intelligence meetings attended by a multidisciplinary group of officials.  Ability to brief colleagues, decision-makers, and the public on the VT DMI and findings from intelligence reports.

This is a limited service position funded through 10/31/2020, which may be extended.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Environmental Factors

Significant pressure from deadlines is present due to a high volume of requests from the various stakeholders with the expectations that results are achieved. Additionally, the employee will be exposed to material that is hateful and negative. Duties are performed largely in an office environment but the person may be required to drive to training locations. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND one (1) year or more of experience in law enforcement, records case management, public safety systems analysis, or public safety research.


Associate's degree AND three (3) years or more of experience in law enforcement, records case management, public safety systems analysis, or public safety research.


High School diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years or more of experience in law enforcement, records case management, public safety systems analysis, or public safety research.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Access

Proficiency with any analytical software preferred.

Special Requirements

Must pass a department conducted background check.


Must pass a federal secret clearance to retain employment. (This may take longer than the normal six (6) month probationary period, but employment in this position may be terminated for failure to have the ability to attain the secret clearance.)
