Overview

The Vermont Department of Health White River Junction District Office has a dynamic opportunity for an enthusiastic and organized registered nurse who is passionate about improving community health.  The right candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of nurses, nutritionists, and public health specialists to make a difference in the health and well-being of communities in the Upper valley of Vermont (southern Orange and northern Windsor Counties).


Our Registered Nurses work in a variety of community health areas; primary programmatic content of focus for the right candidate will be: School Health. The candidate will also be required to provide support to our Immunization Program, Epidemiology work, Emergency Preparedness planning and Family and Child Health programming.


Primary duties include, but are not limited to: 
1.    Serving as a local resource to school nurses and administrators, helping plan activities that utilize Medicaid reinvestment funds and providing technical expertise to support school wellness. 
2.    Develop and maintain internal and external collaboration, communication, and partnerships to further the goals of the VT Department of Health to include, but not limited to, developing and presenting public health topics to internal and external partners. 
3.    On occasion may be asked to do case investigations for infectious disease surveillance and/or immunizations if the public health need arises
4.    Competence in clinical skills such as venipunctures, tuberculin skin testing and vaccinations.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting. Work may be performed in clinic settings and possibly client homes. Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur. Private means of transportation is required. May be required to work evenings, weekends and 12 hour shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in nursing AND two (2) years or more of professional nursing experience.

OR

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

OR

College senior in the final semester of a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) program. (Graduation from the BSN program must occur prior to hire and continued employment will be contingent on the employee passing the Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license.

NOTE: Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Experience with technology and ability to adapt to new systems and databases as needed. Experience and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint and PowerPoint. Experience with public speaking and giving presentations. Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
