Overview
The Benefits Programs Specialist will join a great team! The job is responsible for helping Vermonters understand their eligibility for state and local programs administered through the Economic Services Division. The position requires a great deal of time on the phone as well as serving members of the public in person. Computer and customer service skills are essential.
This position is located in the Hartford district office. The schedule is in the office through the training period and then is eligible for partial telework.

Environmental Factors
Duties are primarily performed in an office setting, but private means of transportation should be available for necessary travel to training and/or meetings. Workload is typically heavy with a constant need for prompt, accurate decisions. Incumbents must be organized and able to function independently while balancing competing priorities. Clientele can present with a variety of challenges resulting in a need to calmly and professionally manage situations in which applicants may be in a heightened emotional state, angry, frustrated, unable to communicate, and/or discouraged.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of experience in direct client services in a human services, education or employment and training setting.
OR
Associate's degree or higher AND two (2) years or more of experience in direct client services in a human services, education or employment and training setting.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Services, or Education
OR
One (1) year or more of experience as a Benefits Programs Specialist Trainee.
