Planning, coordinating, and informational work at a technical level involving the provision of emergency and mitigation planning and grant program support for the Department of Public Safety in conjunction with regional and national hazard mitigation initiatives. Work involves the supervision and coordination of the activities of a state hazard mitigation program which involves the management of funds ranging from thousands of dollars to millions of dollars. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recovery and Mitigation Section Chief. Supervision of hazard mitigation planners that are part of the sustaining structure of the program and temporary and contract support personnel that may supplement routine program activities in a large-scale incident. Extensive interaction occurs with emergency management and governmental officials at the regional, state and local levels.

Environmental Factors

Normal office conditions generally prevail with some required travel to various localities throughout the State. Incumbents should have private means of transportation available. Emergency management drills and actual emergencies may require performance outside of normal hours. On-call status may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in emergency management, planning, public administration, natural resources, risk management, political science or human development AND two (2) years or more of experience at a technical or professional level in program administration or community planning.


Bachelor's degree in any field of study AND three (3) years or more of experience at a technical or professional level in program administration or community planning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in emergency management.
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Ability to work effectively with external partners on a regular basis
