Overview

Specialized legal work involving requests for agency records under Vermont Public Records Act (PRA) and support for the Department of Public Safety (DPS) False Alarm program. Responsibilities include intake, management, and timely responding to PRA requests; drafting of correspondence; legal research; file organization and maintenance; implementing policies and procedures to manage PRA information, assisting attorneys and providing information-related assistance; and providing services to the general public. Assignments require discretion and independent judgment in the application of precedent decisions, regulations, policies and practices of DPS, and judicial or administrative proceedings. Work is performed with independence under the supervision of an attorney or administrative supervisor.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in office settings. Some work in the field could on rare occasions necessitate travel for which incumbents should have private means of transportation available. Some evening or overtime work may be required. Incumbents must be able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and deal tactfully with the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years or more of experience as a paralegal.

OR

Possession of paralegal certificate AND two (2) years or more of experience as

a paralegal.

OR

Juris Doctorate (J. D.) degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:  Proficiency with MS Excel and Adobe Pro; strong writing skills.
