Overview
Public Health Analyst III position for the Maternal Health Innovation grant
The Department of Health is seeking a Public Health Analyst to support Vermont's Maternal Health Innovation grant. The purpose of the State Maternal Health Innovation program is to reduce maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity by improving access to care, enhancing surveillance and data capacity, and identifying and implementing innovative interventions to improve outcomes. This position will be responsible for providing both analytic and evaluation support to the program.
This position requires strong analytic skills, equity-focused analytic approaches and an understanding of structural inequities in health systems. Analysis will use a wide range of data sources, including claims analysis. Experience with claims analysis is a plus. The position will produce reports and presentations and requires the ability to communicate findings effectively to clinical, policy and community audiences.
The evaluation will be supporting the selection of performance measures, examining system interventions and requires both quantitative and qualitative analyses. For example, this position should be able to code and analyze interview and focus group data to identify themes related to patient experience.
Strong interpersonal skills are required as this position will work closely with research faculty, state agencies, clinicians, and community partners.
This full-time position is hybrid, with three days per week at the Waterbury State Office Complex required.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Meetings with data users and providers may require some travel, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or a social sciences discipline, including 6 credits in statistics at the graduate level AND one (1) year or more of professional level work in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
OR
Bachelor's degree in statistics, a health-related or social sciences discipline, including 12 college credits in statistics, research or computer sciences, and 6 of these credits must be in statistics AND two (2) years or more of professional level work in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
OR
Associate’s degree in public health, health, scientific or informatics field AND four (4) years or more of experience in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in public health or a health-related field.
