Professional laboratory and fieldwork involving chemical and criminological analysis of materials, samples, and evidence for the State Forensic Laboratory. Work includes laboratory material comparisons and examinations in conjunction with police investigations. Work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Forensic Chemist.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: This position will primarily support the Department of Public Safety. Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include finger-print supported Criminal Records, Motor Vehicle records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Environmental Factors

Must be able to work in laboratory conditions with exposure to noxious or harmful fumes and chemicals and operate sophisticated laboratory equipment. Work requires some travel and incumbents should possess a valid Vermont operator's license.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, toxicology or forensic science related area INCLUDING eighteen (18) credit hours in chemistry AND EITHER two (2) years or more of professional laboratory experience performing biochemical, organic, physical, or toxicological chemical analysis OR one (1) year or more of professional forensic laboratory experience performing biochemical, organic, physical, or toxicological chemical analysis on items of forensic evidence.


Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, toxicology or forensic science related area.

NOTE: Must pass in-house background check.
