Overview
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a highly organized professional to join our team in the Accounting Unit as a Financial Specialist III. This position will perform advanced level financial work with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities. Responsibilities include processing a high volume of invoices, properly account for/record/manage/collect receivables, reconcile transactions, and complete other assigned accounting tasks in a timely manner.
This position will:
- Enter invoices for payment in VTBuys and Vision.
- Obtain proper signature authority prior to entering invoices for payment.
- Review state and department contracts to ensure payments align with payment provisions.
- Request new supplier set ups and/or updates.
- Reconcile supplier statements.
- Address and respond to supplier inquiries.
- Receive, record, and make deposits for all forms of cash.
- Report department revenue deposits into Vision financial system.
- Perform monthly billing and statements processes to send out to customers.
- Communicate with customers to request payment on past due invoices.
- Maintain and reconcile aged receivables.
- Reconcile department revenue received in multiple State bank accounts with Vision system AR entries.

During the first three months of onboarding, this role will be mostly on-site, with the option for up to two remote days per week once training is successfully completed. Applicants should live within commuting distance of Waterbury, VT, or must be prepared to relocate in order to be considered.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years or more of full-time college coursework in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field AND one (1) year or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or technical level fiscal experience that involved the calculation, recording and maintenance of accounting or financial records.
OR
Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field AND one (1) year or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or technical level fiscal experience that involved the calculation, recording and maintenance of accounting or financial records.
OR
Completion of a vocational/technical training program in business, office administration, financial support or related area AND two (2) years or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or technical level fiscal experience that involved the calculation, recording and maintenance of accounting or financial records.
OR
High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or technical level fiscal experience that involved the calculation, recording and maintenance of accounting or financial records.
OR
One (1) year or more as a Financial Specialist II with the State of Vermont.
Special Requirements
For some positions experience working with the VISION system (VISION is the State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required.
