Overview

The Department of Public Safety seeks a highly organized professional with a positive attitude to join our team as a Financial Administrator. This position will be responsible for completing financial statements, grant documents, draws, billings, contractual payments, and any other items that may be required of a specific appropriation within the department. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, solid analytical skills and a high level of proficiency with Excel. Please be prepared to complete an exercise demonstrating your Excel skills if selected for an interview. A cover letter must accompany the application/resume.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing and analyzing financial data and records.

OR

Associate's degree in accounting, business/office administration AND two (2) years or more of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing and analyzing financial data and records.

OR

Associate's degree INCLUDING 20 college credit hours in accounting AND one (1) year or more of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing and analyzing financial data and records.

OR

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business/office administration.

OR

Bachelor's degree INCLUDING 20 college credit hours in accounting AND one (1) year or more of accounting experience maintaining, reviewing and analyzing financial data and records.

OR

One (1) year or more of experience as a Financial Specialist III with the State of Vermont.

NOTE: All levels of required accounting experience, unless otherwise noted, must have been performed to ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Special Requirements

For some positions experience working with the VISION system (VISION is the State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required.
