Overview

Vermont Emergency Management is looking for a mission-driven professional to join our Planning Section. This position will work under the supervision of the Planning Section Chief and in partnership with VEM's Emergency Management Planners. 

 

This position will support a broad range of emergency management planning efforts, including support for state agencies to develop plans to respond to and recover from the effects of disasters, supporting plan development and providing technical assistance in planning, data collection, and analysis. 

 

This position will support the development of incident-specific annexes to the State Emergency Management Plan and planning efforts for the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC). 

 

The person hired for this position will be expected to live in Vermont with the ability to be in Waterbury on occasion. The hours and duration of this position are flexible for the right person and can be discussed in further detail during the interview process.

Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Environmental Factors

Normal office conditions generally prevail with some required travel to various localities throughout the State. Incumbents should have private means of transportation available. Emergency management drills and actual emergencies may require performance outside of normal hours. On-call status may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in emergency management, public administration, risk management, or related field AND (1) year or more of experience in emergency management or planning.

OR

Four (4) years or more of experience in emergency management, public administration, risk management, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in emergency management and/or as a first responder.

Knowledge of Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation.
