Overview

This position recruits and trains medical and mental health professionals to conduct consultative examinations for disability applicants. Consults on communication issues with both internal and external partners. Interacts with the medical community to coordinate and promote use of electronic medical records.

It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Incumbents must organize, analyze and prioritize highly complex, detailed information and produce results that meet exacting requirements for simultaneous quality, timeliness, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting with some field travel to healthcare and service providers in the state and to regional and national professional relations conferences. Incumbents must have private means of transportation for required travel. Although duties normally are performed during regular office hours, some evening and weekend activity may be necessary to meet with various parties. Due to the nature of Disability Determination work, it may be necessary to deal with sensitive and emotional issues, face to face as well as by telephone, with claimants who may have severe disabilities, their legal representatives and advocates, service providers, and other interested parties. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND one (1) year or more of work experience that includes outreach, recruitment, public relations or marketing in the healthcare or similar field; demonstrated knowledge and interpretation of policy; and providing support services in an office setting such as general clerical, fiscal or administrative duties.

OR

Associate's degree OR completion of two (2) years of college and two (2) years or more of work experience that includes outreach, recruitment, public relations or marketing in the healthcare or similar field; demonstrated knowledge and interpretation of policy; and providing support services in an office setting such as general clerical, fiscal or administrative duties.

OR

High School Diploma with three (3) years or more of work experience that includes outreach, recruitment, public relations or marketing in the healthcare or similar field; demonstrated knowledge and interpretation of policy; and providing support services in an office setting such as general clerical, fiscal or administrative duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) or more years of similar experience in the Social Security disability or similar program.

Experience working with the medical community

Experience giving presentations, electronically and in person

Experience managing multi-faceted projects

Special Requirements

All candidates must pass applicable State background checks in accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, State of Vermont tax compliance and criminal record checks, and Federal requirements for all DDS employees, including fingerprinting for FBI clearance and a Federal Public Trust background investigation.
