Overview

The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) is seeking a Custodian IV. This position will be part of a team that will be taking care of daily cleaning duties of state owned or leased buildings and facilities at the Waterbury Complex. This position will function as a team lead and will plan, organize, and direct work for a crew of building custodians. Additionally, this position will participate in hiring and evaluating custodial employees, training employees on new work methods and procedures, and may oversee or participate in snow removal, grounds keeping, and recycling. Position requires successful completion of background checks and a valid drivers license.

 

This position will work the day shift, Monday through Friday.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state owned or leased buildings. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required. 

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years or more of building custodial work that included floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction INCLUDING at least (1) year as a lead worker or supervisor.

OR

Three (3) years as a BGS Custodian II.

Special Requirements

Some positions in this class require a valid driver’s license and own transportation for travel between work locations. 

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
