Overview

We are hiring for our Child Care Business Technician position.  The position works in the Child Care Licensing Unit of the DCF's Child Development Division.  Our unit is responsible for regulating center-based child care, afterschool care, family child care, and prekindergarten programs in Vermont. A Child Care Business Technician is responsible for:


•    Processing background clearances for all individuals affiliated with a child care or prekindergarten program,
•    Case managing child care licensing applications which includes providing technical assistance, and
•    Generating compliance reports used by Licensing Field Specialists during licensing compliance visits. 

 

We have a diverse team that relies on teamwork and collaboration.  We welcome applicants with different and/or unique backgrounds, experiences, and/or perspectives to join our team.  We are seeking a self-motivated, independent individual who has experience working with highly confidential information and documents.  The right candidate will also have strong attention to detail skills, an ability to communicate well in writing and verbally, and effective customer service skills including an ability to diffuse individuals who are upset and to have difficult conversations.  In addition to being able to read and apply regulations, we need someone who can think critically and make decisions.  While the work can be concrete at times, there are other times in which discretion is required to be used.  Based upon the highly confidential nature of the work and the corona virus pandemic, the right candidate will need to be able to have a place within their home to work until we return to the Waterbury State Office Complex.

Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting. 

Highly emotional situations and strong differences of opinion will be encountered. Must be adaptable and able to work within tight time limits and under considerable pressures.  Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree or higher AND one (1) or more of experience performing administrative-level duties for a project, program, operation, business or organization. Administrative duties are those beyond general clerical or secretarial, such as interpretation of laws, rules and regulations; data collection; and implementing program policies and procedures.

OR

Bachelor's Degree AND two (2) years or more experience performing administrative-level duties for a project, program, operation, business or organization. Administrative duties are those beyond general clerical or secretarial, such as interpretation of laws, rules and regulations; data collection; and implementing program policies and procedures.

OR

Associate degree AND four (4) years or more experience performing administrative-level duties for a project, program, operation, business or organization. Administrative duties are those beyond general clerical or secretarial, such as interpretation of laws, rules and regulations; data collection; and implementing program policies and procedures.
