Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Springfield. This position involves the administration of various examinations for motor vehicle and operator's licenses and issuance of various licenses and permits, including the Commercial Drivers License. Duties involve conducting a variety of examinations, including road tests, to determine applicant driving capability. This position is also responsible for assisting with registrations, renewals, and general customer service. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday.

This position, Motor Vehicle Examiner - Temporary (#31983), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in the field and require operating and riding in automobiles. Considerable human relations skills are required to deal with nervous, upset or hostile applicants. Incumbents may be required to take over the operation of a motor vehicle in the interest of personal and public safety. Incumbents must be able to carry heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. Due to volume, certain positions may be rotated to various work stations. A uniform must be worn during work hours.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of work experience, including one year of public contact functions.
OR
One (1) year of full-time college coursework AND two (2) years or more of work experience, including one year of public contact functions.
A current, valid driver's license is required.
An applicant's vision must be correctable to 20/40 (Snellen Test) in both eyes, with normal color perception and field of vision.
