Title: Interim Recreation Services Coordinator

Overview
The Vermont Department of Corrections is looking for an Interim Recreation Services Coordinator to work at Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury.
As the Rec Services coordinator, you'll:
- Develop and deliver leisure programs for the incarcerated individuals
- Help in developing the budget for recreation services
- Be an active participant on the Recreation Fund Committee
- Be Responsible for handing out commissary and getting the appropriate documentation signed
- Be Responsible for basic tablet issuance and questions/concerns
- Issue, control and inventory supplies and equipment
- Process rec related request forms
- Hire certain incarcerated individuals for positions such as facility barbers or unit rec representatives
- Process incarcerated individual payroll as appropriate
- Assist education services with overseeing the incarcerated individual library
- Direct supervision of barber services
- Provide facility reports as appropriate
- Oversee the cleanliness of the gym and associated equipment
This interim job is a full time position, Monday through Friday from 8a-4p, with holidays off. You will perform other duties directed by superiors.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed primarily within an institutional setting. Incumbents must possess considerable interpersonal human relations skills, including patience, understanding, and humor, to deal effectively with the institution’s inmate population and other staff members. Emotional and mental stability is required.
Significant interaction with inmates is required.

Minimum Qualifications
High School degree/equivalent or higher and one (1) or more years of experience working in physical education, or a recreation program or comparable program/organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher in physical education, recreation services or a related field.
Experience working in a correctional or similar institution
Special Requirements
Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
