Overview

The Facility Work Crew Leader is responsible for supervising incarcerated individuals engaged in community-based work. This position plays a key role in fostering a strong work ethic among participants, ensuring safety, and maintaining productivity and compliance with established protocols.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise incarcerated individuals working on community crews.
  • Promote responsibility, discipline, and a strong work ethic among participants.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust to dynamic situations.
    • Conduct daily documentation and reporting, including:
    • End-of-shift reports
    • Vehicle inspection forms
    • Incident reports
    • Tool and equipment inventories
  • Participate in and help facilitate work-related training for eligible individuals.
  • Maintain public relations in a professional manner when interacting with community members.
  • Operate and inspect state vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.


Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Must have completed, or be willing to attend, the Vermont Corrections Academy.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings as well as in a standard office setting. High stress situations are predictable. A valid driver's license is required. Weekend shifts are predictable. Presentations before groups and organizations should be anticipated. Duty station assignments may change in accordance with the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of full-time work experience.

 

OR

 

One year of full-time college course work AND two (2) years or more of full-time work experience.

 

OR

 

Two years of full-time college coursework or associate's degree AND one (1) year or more of full-time work experience.

 

OR

 

Three years or more of full-time college coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience involving the custody or supervision of offenders in a community or correctional institutional setting or a military background.

Note: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont, and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, except for those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
