Overview

The Agency of Transportation is looking for an Aviation Maintenance Worker to join the team at the Springfield Airport, with occasional duties at the Rutland Airport. 

 

The position will help maintain airport infrastructure by performing routine and preventive maintenance on runways, taxiways, parking lots, and building facilities. The Maintenance Worker will also be responsible for managing equipment inventory and supplies used at state-owned airports. A state-owned vehicle will be utilized for traveling between airports. This position operates under the general direction of the State Airport Maintenance Supervisor, offering a dynamic and hands-on work environment.

 

This position will work on-call part-time hours, but could work up to 40 hours per week depending on snow removal operations.

This position, Aviation Maintenance Worker I (Job Requisition #50228), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed both in a facility as well as in the field. Duties require exposure to extreme outdoor weather. An incumbent must be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their work schedule and must be reachable by phone. An employee must be able to use tools and lift equipment commonly used in routine maintenance work. Normal dangers associated with work on or near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, responding to accidents, emergencies and natural disasters are present. May be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required. Travel throughout the state to various airports may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years or more of transportation maintenance or construction experience INCULDING BOTH one season or more of operating a snowplow with or without wings AND six months or more of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, rollers, and backhoes.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in inventory or store control, and lighting/electrical.

Special Requirements

An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.

Must complete Vermont State Aeronautics Training program within the first 6 months of employment.
