The Motor Vehicle Customer Service Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting customers by phone, fax, electronic and written correspondence. Our office is the initial contact point for all of DMV and many customers are extremely frustrated when they contact us. Therefore, a positive attitude along with the ability to remain calm under pressure is mandatory. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment as an individual and as a team player. The incumbent must be able to interpret and follow procedures, policies and statutes, and must be able to effectively communicate correct information for all interactions to their customer(s). Computer literacy is required as multiple databases will be used on a daily basis. Excellent research skills are needed in order to assist customers with complicated DMV transactions.

This position, Motor Vehicle Customer Service Specialist - Temporary (#13869), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Environmental Factors

Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Employees must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Normal office conditions prevail with occasional trips outdoors to verify vehicle identification numbers, as well as trips to other branches to assist when personnel shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Some overtime work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) or more years of work experience in a customer or client service role such as retail, hospitality or government that included significant public contact and regular use of computer programs.
