This position is based at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility, which is a 172 bed progressive correctional facility primarily for women. The facility houses pre-trial and sentenced women for all custody levels. The staff provides services through an interdisciplinary team approach to meet the needs of the inmates and keep the community safe. Candidates will have or develop specific skills and training related to working with criminal justice involved women.

The needs of women in a correctional setting pose unique challenges to implementing operational practices. While some operations may apply broadly to the handling of all types of inmates, other operations are tailored to the unique medical, social, and legal needs of women inmates. As CRCF is the only women's facility in the state, you will gain unique and valuable skills and experience in communication techniques, operational style, legal issues, women's pathways to prison, gender-responsive principles, and staff sexual misconduct as they apply to women in a correctional setting.

Incumbents in this class provide Offender work crew supervision for the Department of Corrections. Duties may include public relations, marketing of services, and development of contracts with qualifying community and governmental agencies and training and support of these agencies in the management and supervision of offenders. Duties include planning, program management, administrative processing, training, supervision, and oversight of offenders from a Correctional Facility. Work is performed in accordance with correctional policies and directives. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships, and results orientation.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings as well as in a standard office setting. High stress situations are predictable. A valid driver's license is required. Weekend shifts are predictable. Presentations before groups and organizations should be anticipated. Duty station assignments may change in accordance with the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of full-time work experience.


One year of full-time college course work AND two (2) years or more of full-time work experience.


Two years of full-time college coursework or associate's degree AND one (1) year or more of full-time work experience.


Three years or more of full-time college coursework.

Note: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience involving the custody or supervision of offenders in a community or correctional institutional setting or a military background.
