Title: Parks Regional Operations Manager

Overview
The Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation seeks an energetic, outgoing, positive, individual with a thorough understanding of Vermont State Parks' operations who is able to work independently, multi-task, use excellent communication skills both orally and in writing to mediate conflicts, provide excellent customer service and succeed as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. This advanced operations position is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of seasonal park managers and staff that work in up to 12 state parks in the southwestern region of Vermont State Parks spanning from Woodford to Charlotte.
Other job duties include, but are not limited to, working on projects involving park interpretation, community partnerships, and park planning. Vermont State Parks strives to ensure a workplace that is welcoming, safe and inclusive for all.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in office and field settings in all seasons. Significant day-to-day travel within the region is frequently required during the park season. Incumbents must be able to lift heavy weights and use tools and equipment necessary for park operations. Duties require considerable public contact, sometimes under stressful conditions. Incumbents are expected to respond to or advise on emergencies on evenings and weekends during the park season when available. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher AND three (3) years or more of experience in park operations, park maintenance, recreation, or conservation field INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.
OR
Two years of full-time college coursework OR an associate's degree AND five (5) years or more of experience in park operations, park maintenance, recreation, or conservation field INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.
OR
High school diploma or equivalent AND seven (7) years or more of experience in park operations, park maintenance, recreation, or conservation field INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in coaching, supervising, recruiting and hiring personnel in a decentralized organization.
- Experience with state, national, and/or community park operation and management.
- Experience in employee mediation and negotiation.
- Experience designing and conducting training for employees with diverse backgrounds and skill sets.
