The Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DBVI) Blind Services Rehabilitation Associate will provide Independent Living casework duties. These duties include consumer interviews and creation of Independent Living Plans and services. This is a great opportunity to join the DBVI Rutland team to assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired to meet their independent living and career goals.


Upon receipt of referrals, the Blind Services Rehabilitation Associate conducts interviews with consumers to elicit information required for determination of eligibility and requests medical documentation of disabilities when necessary. The position assists, advises and guides consumers in development of an Independent Living Plan (ILP). Through regular reviews, the position monitors consumer progress toward completion of goals. Authorizes normal expenditures for training, equipment, or other consumer needs. Assists DBVI consumers in developing resumes, completing employment applications, conducting job searches, interviewing, and work experiences. Maintains detailed case notes on assigned caseload and processes required paperwork to document case openings and closings. Refers consumers to other organizations for needed services. Assists the regional office with administrative duties including a significant amount of bill paying and office organization.  


A person in this position cares about helping people meet their goals and has great communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with productivity software and software for case management are essential. Experience working with people who are blind or visually impaired is preferred.

Environmental Factors

Due to client visual impairments and/or mobility limitations, most client contact is in the client`s home necessitating considerable travel. Duties are otherwise largely performed in a standard office setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.


Two years or more of full-time college coursework OR an associate's degree AND two (2) years or more at or above an intermediate clerical level in a human service or medical setting, involving direct client or patient contact.


Four (4) years or more at or above an intermediate clerical level in a human service or medical setting, involving direct client or patient contact.
