Title: AOT Fleet Service Technician I - Temporary

Overview
The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a seasonal Fleet Service Technician to join our Rutland team. Starting pay may be negotiable based on your experience and qualifications.
In this role, you’ll use your skills in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance to keep a diverse fleet running. Equipment includes light and medium-duty pickups, heavy-duty dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, excavators, trailers, and more. Proficiency with diagnostic software and vehicle electronics is important, as is the ability to collaborate, share knowledge, and stay busy in a team-oriented environment.
The work is hands-on and often complex, but it plays a critical role in keeping Vermont’s transportation system safe and reliable for the traveling public.

This position, AOT Fleet Service Technician I (Job Req #53344), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties are typically performed in a district garage or motor shop, where normal motor shop hazards exist. Incumbents may be required to make emergency road repairs at any time of day and in inclement weather; such work may present additional hazards. Incumbents must be physically able to use tools and lift parts and materials common to working on heavy vehicles and equipment. Incumbents may be exposed to blood or airborne pathogens. Once incumbents have obtained a commercial driver's license, they are required to participate in a random drug and alcohol-testing program. Overtime work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
No specific experience or education required.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Automotive tech school or related coursework.
Special Requirements
A valid operator's license is required.
Incumbents must obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit within 60 days of employment.
Incumbents must obtain a Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Certification within 60 days of employment.
Incumbents must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License, with air-brake certification, within 6 months of employment.
Incumbents must provide their own hand-tools.
