Title:  VAEL Chemist II/Sample Receiving

Application Deadline Date:  01/25/2021
Req ID:  11363
Department:  Agriculture, Food & Markets Agency

Randolph Center, VT, US

Position Type:  Permanent
Schedule Type:  Full Time
Hourly Rate:  $22.36

The Vermont Agriculture and Environmental Laboratory (VAEL) is seeking a motivated and skilled chemist to work in our brand new, state-of-the art facility in idyllic Randolph Ctr, Vermont.  This position is split 50:50 between analytical duties in the chemistry lab and in sample receiving, so a balance of lab skills and customer service is highly valued.

As a chemist, the successful candidate will be responsible for independently conducting classic wet chemistry methods including, but not limited to, alkalinity, chlorophyll-a, total suspended/dissolved solids, conductivity and turbidity. All methods must be completed safely and with a high degree of quality. Experience with these methods is valued but this is an entry-level position and training will be provided.

In sample receiving, the successful candidate will be responsible for receiving samples from our clients into the laboratory. These samples include water, air, milk, cheese, yogurt, ice-cream, feed, fertilizer,  pesticide, soil and hemp.  The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that each sample is accepted under specific conditions, with proper documentation and is logged into our database.  This position is also responsible for filling client bottle requests and maintaining sample bottle inventory; organization is key. In many ways, this position is the face of VAEL and the incumbent will work directly with clients, so customer service skills are essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with a team of other chemists and microbiologists involved in a wide array of testing programs that directly support Vermont's Agriculture and protect Vermont's environment.  To view the full specifications please visit here.
