Overview
Do you love the flexibility of working outside in the summer? The Southwest District of Vermont Buildings & General Services (BGS) is seeking a temporary Maintenance Worker to care for and maintain the Public Safety Training Academy in Pittsford, VT.
Summer seasonal employees will work with team members to maintain the buildings and grounds within the Academy complex. Job duties will include mowing and gardening, light maintenance of grounds equipment, assisting maintenance personnel with building projects and periodically completing basic preventative maintenance tasks. This temporary position is ever-changing and is a terrific way to learn more about a rewarding career in maintenance services with the State of Vermont. The ability to use mowing equipment (zero turn mowers, string trimmers, power broom, pruning equipment) is preferred but not required.
The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 3pm. However, there is some flexibility in the schedule and 40 hours per week is not required. This is an ideal position for someone looking to make some extra money over the summer and candidates 16 years old and up are encouraged to apply. We anticipate this position beginning in late May ending in September or as the season and schedules demand.
Who May Apply
This position, Maintenance Worker (Job Requisition #33761), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed indoors and outdoors under all types of weather conditions. Good physical condition and ability to lift weights of up to fifty pounds is necessary. Some positions require a driver's license to operate State-owned vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of vocational school.
OR
Completion of eighth grade AND one (1) year of experience as a helper in building and/or maintenance repair.
Note: Certain positions require a valid driver's license.
Special Requirements
Some positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites. A criminal record check and/or child abuse registry check may be required for some positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed.
