Overview

The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont is seeking a District Facilities Manager (DFM) to oversee the Southwest region. This is a multi-faceted position that will be responsible for administrative, planning, maintenance and supervisory work at several locations within the district. The incumbent is expected to coordinate assignments, oversee preventative maintenance and smaller scale construction projects. The DFM will be responsible for providing assessments and recommendations during the budget planning process for their district. Additionally, the incumbent will ensure that staffing levels for all shifts are appropriately met and will manage staff expenditures such as overtime, training, mileage and expense reports. The DFM will travel to various facilities within the district and should be prepared to respond when emergencies occur. Previous supervisory experience is required for this position.

Class Definition

Administrative, planning, maintenance and supervisory work in a geographic district including facilities at several locations. Facilities include buildings, grounds, and related support systems. Supervision is exercised over Plant Maintenance Supervisors, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled employees. Incumbents in this class are expected to coordinate the execution of assignments with a significant level of independent judgment concerning oversight of work orders, general preventive maintenance and smaller scale construction projects. Duties are performed under the direction of the Regional Director.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in both office and field settings, outdoors and inside buildings. Manual dexterity may be needed to operate equipment and use tools. Incumbents must be able to respond anytime when emergencies occur. Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights. Travel to various locations requires private means of transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND four (4) or more years in building or plant maintenance and repair work INCLUDING three (3) or more as a supervisor.

OR

Associate's degree AND six (6) or more years in building or plant maintenance and repair work INCLUDING three (3) or more as a supervisor.

OR

High School diploma, trade school graduation or equivalent AND eight (8) or more years in building or plant maintenance and repair work INCLUDING three (3) or more as a supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

A degree or coursework in construction, architectural or engineering or closely related.
