Overview

The Vermont Department of Health – Newport District Office is seeking an experienced nurse to join their existing, interdisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to improving health equity in the Northeast Kingdom. The work will focus on engagement with multiple community partners from different sectors of the community to address identified priorities in population health. The scope of work for the public health nurse may include leading or supporting the following public health areas: epidemiologic investigation, school health, maternal and child health, immunization, and emergency response. 


Job duties are performed under the supervision and assistance of a Public Health Nurse Supervisor. The Health Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the department’s diversity and commitment to foster an environment of mutual respect, acceptance, and equal opportunity. 


As part of the Vermont Department of Health, the Newport District Office is one of 12 local health offices in Vermont. Our office is in Newport which is on the southern shore of Lake Memphremagog on the Canadian border and serves the Northeast Kingdom communities in Orleans and northern Essex Counties.

Environmental Factors

Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting. Work may be performed in clinic settings and possibly client homes. Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur. Private means of transportation is required. May be required to work evenings, weekends and 12 hour shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in nursing AND five (5) years or more of professional nursing experience INCLUDING three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*.

OR

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) AND three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*.

Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont


*Community Health Nursing is defined as school nursing, home health nursing, home visiting nurses and community nurse health educators.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

 

One or more years of maternal and child health nursing experience and/or school nurse experience.

Must maintain Vermont licensure as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
