Overview
The Vermont Department of Health has an opportunity for an experienced public health professional who wants to make a difference in the health of communities in Lamoille County. We are seeking an experienced, well-organized, and detail-oriented Nutritionist with great listening and communication skills to work at out Morrisville District Office.
We seek a knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated public health professional to become our new Nutritionist III. As the Nutritionist III, you will oversee local implementation of the supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), supervise the WIC team, and maintain program administration and quality in accordance with federal and state guidelines. The Nutritionist III will also maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of community partners, our WIC Central Office team, healthcare partners, and Agency of Human Services staff.
Major responsibilities include:
· Provide overall administration, management, and quality assurance of the Women, Infant and Childrens (WIC) nutrition services at the district office level, while assisting in certifying caseload with other Nutritionists.
· Obtain and use nutrition assessment data to provide individual client nutrition counseling to clients in plain language; develops and evaluates individual nutrition care plans.
· Provide leadership, supervision, orientation, training, consultation, and support to the WIC team
· Conduct community nutrition and health status needs assessments and develop subsequent implementation and/or training plans.
· Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of community partners and stakeholders.
· Provides ongoing supervision for peer counselors, assigns caseloads, monitors performance, reviews and approves timesheets and expense reports. Identifies and coordinates community partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of the peer counseling program. Supports District leadership to recruit, interview and orientate new WIC staff at the local District Office.
This position also works with a public health team on emergency preparedness. Duties are performed under supervision of Public Health Services District Director.

Environmental Factors
Duties primarily performed in public health organization setting or in outlying service sites.
Travel to outlying sites will require a driver’s license. Private means of transportation may be required.
Occasional travel to statewide trainings required. Possible travel in difficult weather conditions.
There is considerable interaction with staff, clients and the general public. At times of public health emergencies (floods, infectious disease outbreaks, etc.) individuals may be expected to assist. Physical demands vary with the position; generally limited to carrying equipment needed to conduct clinic and education activities. Employees work with a variety of clients and may have contact with potentially dangerous and combative individuals as well as a wide variety of illnesses. Certain functions may require duty outside of normal work hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND three (3) years of professional experience in public health nutrition or community health nutrition including one (1) year or more at a supervisory level OR leading a group or team.
OR
Bachelor's degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in public health nutrition or community health nutrition including one (1) year or more at a supervisory level OR leading a group or team.
Preferred Qualifications
Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D./R.D.N)
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
