Overview

The Office of Legislative Counsel is seeking an attorney to handle issues related to labor and employment to join our collaborative team.  The attorney will provide legal research and analysis, legislative drafting, policy analysis, and other legal services to the Vermont General Assembly, and will testify frequently before legislative committees.  The Office of Legislative Counsel is a nonpartisan office that provides legal support to all members of the General Assembly, regardless of party or political affiliation.  Legislative Counsel is a small team with an important mission, and the work is challenging, dynamic, and exciting.  You will be part of a highly professional and collegial team dedicated to serving the Vermont General Assembly. 

Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. The comprehensive State benefits package includes health insurance and retirement plans.

Minimum Requirements

Required Education/Experience:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or successful completion of a recognized law office study program
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Vermont or, if licensed outside Vermont, admission to the Vermont Bar within a reasonable time
  • A minimum of 3-5 years professional legal experience
