Title: Telecommunications Coordinator

Overview
The Telecommunications Coordinator will work independently within policy guidelines and direction from the Director of Telecommunications to produce plans, reports, presentation materials and web content. This position will also write, format, and update text, lists, graphics, and other information delivered to the public and media, in accordance with established State brand standards.
A significant amount of writing is required in various formats from social media to reports and others. Quick comprehension of technical data and programs and an ability to distill that information into easily understood communication to the public is critical. The position will coordinate public events, such as press events and other community marketing activities throughout the year. Monitor the Department website to ensure appropriate content, consistency, and timely updates of communication content and messaging.
Additionally, this position will work on communications and special projects as requested by the Commissioner's Office. This includes dentifying, designing, and executing outreach and communications strategies and plans related to the Department's implementation of programs and to support the Department's strategic objectives. This work may include working directly with program staff, managers, division directors, and/or the Commissioner's office.
The Coordinator will:
- Coordinate and support activities of the Telecommunications Division including production of reports, presentation materials, web content and plans. Conduct public meetings to gather public input and feedback about plans and policies. Research documents that are responsive to public information requests.
- Manage the Vermont Telecommunications Relay Service (VTRS) and the Vermont Equipment Distribution Program (VTEDP) programs which support telecommunications services and equipment for the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and individuals with physical disabilities to communicate by telephone.
- Monitor and report on activities of legislative committees, regulatory boards, and courts, including the Vermont Telecommunications and Connectivity Advisory Board to include official or unofficial note taking.
- Perform related duties as required.
Anticipated approximate starting salary range from $50k to $65k.

Environmental Factors
Normal office working conditions generally prevail, with some travel to field locations and meetings, for which private means of transportation is required. Some public speaking, attendance at public meetings and testimony before committees and boards is required. Evening, weekend, or overtime work may occasionally be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years or more of experience in communications, public policy, telecommunications, private industry, or a regulatory agency.
OR
Four (4) years or more of experience in communications, public policy, telecommunications, private industry, or a regulatory agency.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of public policy and legislative processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other graphic design programs for both print and web-based materials.
- Ability to manage contracts with vendors.
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and update web content.
- Ability to merge existing and evolving communications channels including social media technology into the agency's daily workflow.
- Ability to develop outreach programs suitable for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to conduct public meetings.
- Ability to take legislative notes.
- Ability to absorb and understand technical information and synthesize into plain language.
