Title: State Purchasing Agent II - Limited Service

Overview
The State Purchasing Agent II with the Office of Purchasing & Contracting (OPC) within the Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS).
Duties include:
- Procurement of assigned materials, commodities, contract services, supplies, and equipment for use state agencies and departments, and with commodity procurements being eligible for utilization by political subdivisions, schools, and institutions of higher education.
- Selection and execution of compliant contract delivery methods.
- Responsibility for fiscally prudent, open and fairly competitive, transparent procurement.
- Maintaining swift and uninterrupted flow of a heavy and varied workload while also being vigilant for opportunities to make positive changes in economies of scale, process improvement, or similar opportunities.
There is extensive contact with purchasers and vendors. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Senior Purchasing Agent or the State Commodity Procurement Administrator.

This position, State Purchasing Agent II (#53213), is open to all State employees and external candidates. This is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized through 12/31/2026. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed primarily in a normal office setting. However, incumbents may be required to visit state agencies and vendors, warehouses and auction sites. Incumbents must have access to private vehicle for such occasions. The role involves resolution of disagreements between vendors and purchases which can become quite heated at times. Workload volume is heavy.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of experience in inventory management, purchasing, contract administration, sales, or related field that includes experience with contract or financial management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher in accounting, business administration, or related field.
Professional certification as a Certified Purchasing Manager or Certified Public Purchasing Official.
