The Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets has an immediate opening for an exempt full-time staff attorney to lead the Agency's enforcement efforts. The individual will work with Agency employees to fairly and equitably enforce a wide variety of agricultural regulatory programs, including farm water quality, food safety, feed and fertilizer, pesticide use, and animal health.

The staff attorney will help conduct site visits, assess evidence, determine appropriate responses, manage enforcement actions including pre-hearings and hearings, negotiate settlements, train agency employees, interact with the regulated community, and prepare final order documents. The individual will report to General Counsel, manage enforcement staff, and coordinate with other State agencies and the Attorney General's Office.

The position is located at the Agency's historic building in Montpelier. The successful candidate must be a member of the Vermont bar in good standing (or eligible to waive in), with two to eight years of relevant legal experience and excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior agricultural and/or enforcement experience is preferred. 


This job opening is for a Staff Attorney II or III.


Level is commensurate with experience, and compensation is in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan.

Must be a member of the Vermont bar in good standing (or eligible to waive in) with two to eight years of relevant legal experience.
