Overview

The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) Safety & Security team ensures the safety and security of all state facilities, both owned and leased. The Security Systems Unit is hands-on in installing, maintaining, and supporting essential security infrastructure, including card access systems, CCTV surveillance cameras, intrusion alarms, remote video door intercoms, network and standalone servers, and various other devices. This work impacts approximately 150 buildings statewide, from correctional facilities to administrative offices.

The Security Systems Specialist is a trades-oriented position. You’ll assess security needs, design tailored systems to mitigate threats, and see projects through from start to finish. You’ll be involved in installing, maintaining, and repairing security equipment while collaborating directly with tenants to protect employees and facilities. This role combines the practical expertise of a technician with the strategic thinking of a system designer and administrator, making it ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges with both technical skill and independent initiative.
