Overview

This position plays a crucial role in the retirement process for Teachers, State, and Municipal employees.  The Retirement Specialist will meet with and address employee groups and municipal or school district officials to provide general and detailed information relating to retirement system benefits, optional defined contribution plans and investment programs administered by the State. Interprets and explains statutes and Retirement Board policies and procedures as they relate to affected administrators and employees. Conducts pre-retirement seminars. Calculates estimates of member benefits for retirement systems and provides individual counseling and advice to members in a pre-retirement planning process.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting. Some stress may be encountered in dealing with people having difficulty in making retirement decisions or with people who are unhappy with the information being provided. Some job-related travel will be necessary for which private means of transportation is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree AND one (1) year or more of experience at a or above a technical level in business or public administration, employee benefits, compensation, accounting, auditing, or other fields where analysis, interpretation, and application of rules, regulations, or complex policies and procedures where it is a requirement of the job.

OR

Associate's degree AND two (2) years or more of experience at a or above a technical level in business or public administration, employee benefits, compensation, accounting, auditing, or other fields where analysis, interpretation, and application of rules, regulations, or complex policies and procedures where it is a requirement of the job.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in business or public administration, employee benefits, compensation, accounting, auditing, or other fields where analysis, interpretation, and application of rules, regulations, or complex policies and procedures where it is a requirement of the job.
