This is an exciting opportunity to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Montpelier. The Motor Vehcile Examiner is responsible for the administration of various examinations for motor vehicle and operator's licenses and issuance of various licenses and permits, including the Commercial Driver’s License. Duties involve conducting a variety of examinations, including road tests, to determine applicant driving capability. This position is also responsible for assisting with registrations, renewals, and general customer service.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in the field and require operating and riding in automobiles. Considerable human relations skills are required to deal with nervous, upset, or hostile applicants. Incumbents may be required to take over the operation of a motor vehicle in the interest of personal and public safety. Incumbents must be able to carry heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. Due to volume, certain positions may be rotated to various work stations. A uniform must be worn during work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) or more years of work experience which includes public contact functions.


Special Requirement: A current, valid driver's license is required.

An applicant's vision must be correctable to 20/40 (Snellen Test) in both eyes, with normal color perception and field of vision.

A valid Commercial driver's license with all endorsements is required within 1-year of employment.

Due to the Graduated Driver License, an applicant must be at least 25 years of age.
