Overview

The Department of Human Resources (DHR) seeks a Leave Management Specialist to join our Leave Management Unit supporting employees in the Executive Branch of state government in need of Family Medical Leave. The ideal candidate will work effectively with all levels of employees and management, organize, and prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment.

 

Duties will include handling confidential medical data, providing standard templated letters to employees throughout the process, tracking and monitoring employee leave usage using various queries and reports, as well as communicating any need for changes with the employee. Communication is mostly through email however we are also a call center allowing for employees to reach out via phone as needed. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required as well as attention to detail.

 

Excellent organizational skills are necessary to coordinate and process a large volume of work. The successful candidate must also demonstrate their ability to evaluate, interpret, and provide guidance of family medical leave policy or procedure. Ability to work independently, deliver accurate and timely work, and have an aptitude and interest to learn are all key to success in this position.

 

The Department is currently supporting a hybrid telework environment. Requests to telework will be considered, and in person work will be required a minimum of three days per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting but with some predictable travel requiring the availability of private means of transportation. Some work outside of regular schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion will be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years or more of experience in human resources, or in an administrative role assisting with human resources functions.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or higher in human resources, business management, or related field.

Experience administering labor and employment laws and regulations such as the Family Medical Leave Act, VT Parental Family Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and/or the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, Workers' Compensation and/or labor contracts.
