Title: IT Systems Administrator IV

Overview
This advanced-level System Administrator position plays a critical technical leadership role responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining enterprise applications, middleware and supports the entire desktop fleet for the State of Vermont. The incumbent leads complex system implementations, oversees integrations with other platforms, and ensures system performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and adherence to backup, recovery, and change‑management procedures.
Serving as a technical expert, this role evaluates and deploys software and hardware solutions, conducts capacity planning, produces comprehensive documentation, and ensures compliance with organizational standards while safeguarding sensitive data. The position also provides mentorship to other System Administrators, collaborates extensively with IT teams and vendors, and may function as a supervisor or technical lead, requiring both deep technical expertise and strong communication, leadership, and customer‑service skills.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a computer environment involving considerable interaction with other IT staff and department/agency staff. Overtime is often necessary to minimize impact to the enterprise due to IT Systems upgrades and/or outages as well as meeting IT System goals and deadlines. Some travel may be involved, for which private means of transportation may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science AND three (3) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.
OR
Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits AND five (5) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.
OR
Eight (8) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in InTune, Tanium and ITSM platforms (Ivanti/Service Now).
Special Requirements
A fingerprint-supported background check may be required based on the assigned job duties and location.
