Overview

The State of Vermont's Agency of Digital Services (ADS) is at the forefront of transforming government services for the digital age. We serve the Agency of Education and the Department of Labor, working collaboratively to enhance the delivery of critical services to Vermonters. We are seeking a talented and motivated IT Systems Administrator to join our dynamic team.


As an IT Systems Administrator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Agency of Education and/or the Department of Labor in their digital transformation efforts. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including technical teams and security experts, to ensure the smooth operation of digital systems and the development of innovative solutions. The IT Systems Administrator position is currently 80/20 remote, meaning we are in the office 1 day per week.  For in-office days, the position will be in Montpelier.

 

The successful incumbent of this position will maintain responsible stewardship of a standard workload of Windows servers.  Responsible stewardship consists of monitoring overall health, troubleshooting OS issues, assisting application owners/developers with troubleshooting applications, remediating security findings, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administration of Microsoft Systems: Administration of Microsoft based systems including Windows servers, Azure virtual machines, Windows based workstations and Office 365.
  • SQL Proficiency: Utilize SQL skills to query databases, extract insights, and troubleshoot data-related issues.
  • Azure Cloud Services: Leverage Azure cloud services to develop and deploy scalable and secure applications.
  • Cloud-Native Apps: Drive the adoption of cloud-native application development practices, making applications more resilient and scalable.
  • Collaboration with Security Team: Collaborate closely with the security team to ensure compliance with security standards and best practices.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with Active Directory Domain Services including Active Directory, Group policy, DHCP, DNS, Windows file and print services.
  • Proven experience with RBAC, SQL, and Azure cloud services.
  • Strong roadmapping and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native application development principles.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and staying current with industry trends.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some maintenance work on assigned equipment may be necessary and some work outside of regular work schedule may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science AND two (2) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.

 

OR

 

Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits AND four (4) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.

 

OR

 

Six (6) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.
