The Vermont Department of Human Resources seeks a high-performing HR generalist to join a dedicated team supporting multiple departments in the Agency of Administration, Agency of Digital Services and other small departments. The ideal candidate will work successfully with all levels of employees and management, effectively organize and prioritize work, and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Duties will include varying degrees of work in position management, hiring, records management, leave management, and accommodation requests, performance management, supervisory coaching and labor relations. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required; familiarity with working in a union environment a plus.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered in dealing with employee grievances, union representatives, or members of management.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years or more at or above a technical level in human resources, employment services or labor relations work.


Two (2) years of full-time college coursework or an associate's degree AND four (4) years or more at or above a technical level in human resources, employment services or labor relations   work.


High School diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years or more at or above a technical level in human resources, employment services or labor relations work.


One (1) year or more of graduate work in public or business administration, human resources or labor relations AND two (2) years or more at or above a technical level in human resources, employment services or labor relations work.


One (1) year or more of experience as a Human Resource Administrator II for the Vermont Department of Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in public employment and/or supervision.
