Overview
The Vermont Department of Human Resources seeks a strong Human Resources generalist to join our Montpelier team supporting multiple departments in the Agency of Administration, the Agency of Digital Services, and other small departments. The ideal candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and management personnel, organize and prioritize work effectively, and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment. Duties will include varying degrees of HR Administrator/Generalist work in hiring and onboarding, position and records management, performance management, supervisory coaching, labor relations, and medical leave and accommodation requests.
Candidates interested in the HR Administrator I are expected to have well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills necessary to coordinate and proficiently process a large volume of work including transactional functions. Ability to work as part of a team and independently deliver accurate and timely work, and have an aptitude and interest to learn are all keys to success in this position.
The Department of Human Resources is currently supporting a hybrid work model. Requests for some telework each week will be considered.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in human resources, organization development, public administration, business or related field.
OR
Associates degree AND one (1) year or more of experience that must include providing support services to internal or external customers and computer experience involving the use of spreadsheets, databases, and email communications.
OR
High School diploma AND two (2) years or more of experience that must include providing support services to internal or external customers and computer experience involving the use of spreadsheets, databases, and email communications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in public employment.
