Overview

The Vermont Department of Public Service seeks a General Counsel to provide legal advice and services to the Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB), its Executive Director and Communication Union Districts.

Description

General Counsel I will provide counsel on a variety of complex issues with substantial legal, financial, transactional, and public interest considerations that inform the work of the VCBB, in particular, the implementation of the recently passed Act 71, An Act Relating to Accelerated Community Broadband Deployment.

 

The VCBB General Counsel may also represent the Vermont Community Broadband Board in proceedings before state and federal regulatory agencies, as well as state and federal courts and the Vermont General Assembly. The VCBB General Counsel may appear before legislative committees on bills of particular importance and impact and the development, implementation, and execution of litigation strategies in state and federal forums on complex regulatory matters. The position will report to the VCBB Deputy Director.

Compensation

This is a full-time exempt limited-service position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements

Admission to the Vermont Bar is required.

Experience of at least 5 years in telecommunications law or other public utility regulatory law, administrative law, commercial law, or civil litigation is preferred, but all candidates will be considered.

A background in the disciplines of telecommunications financing, engineering, or economics is preferred.

Ability to work well with a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in advising a board preferred.

Excellent research and writing skills required.
