Overview

The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) Fleet Management program is hiring a Operations Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of Vermont's 680-vehicle state fleet.

 

The position will supervise a three-person service team, overseeing vehicle maintenance, managing accident processes, coordinating vehicle auctions, and delivering strong customer service to state agencies. This role also includes financial oversight, data tracking, and ongoing operational decision-making and support.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in both office and field/shop environments. Duties may involve: Outdoor exposure in winter and summer conditions. Vehicle inspections and equipment installation/removal. Moderate lifting, snow removal assistance, and physical operational support. Exposure to damaged vehicle components, fluids, debris, or other hazardous conditions. Extended hours during emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

ASE Certification, degree, or successful completion of formal training course in automotive technology or closely related field AND one (1) or more years of financial or administrative experience, including supervisory or team lead duties.
OR
Four (4) or more years in automotive service and/or mechanic experience AND one (1) or more years of financial or administrative experience, including supervisory or team lead duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with invoice review, billing reconciliation, purchasing card oversight, and broader financial controls or compliance.
Ability to coordinate with vendors, authorize services, and prepare operational reports using Microsoft Excel or similar tools. 
Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including hybrid and electric, with the ability to interpret diagnostics and explain issues clearly. 
Demonstrated ability to lead a small technical team, maintain accountability, and work collaboratively with management, along with overall proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Special Requirements

Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate state fleet vehicles are required.
