Overview

Are you interested in governmental accounting, business or finance? Do you like to fill your day with varying tasks from payroll and expenses to A/R and A/P to assets and budgets? If your answer is yes, consider joining our team at the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets Business Office. We are a small, fast paced, collaborative and dynamic business office of dedicated professionals managing the entire realm of government business for the Agency. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills, a desire to improve processes, the ability to multi-task and a high level of experience in Excel.

This position's duties include supervision of professional staff, execution of the day-to-day operations of the Business Office, and providing a supporting role to the Financial Director. Such duties include: Asset Management, Grant Drawdowns, Grant Financial Reporting, Billing via Quickbooks, Budget Development and Monitoring, Contracts/Grants, Purchasing & Expenses using the State VISION system, Fleet Management and Payroll using the State VTHR system. Procedural and job aid development, and budgeting as well as a focus on internal controls adds to the variety along with A/P, A/R & G/L.

Work is performed in a standard office setting.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or a bachelor's degree in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 20 credit hours in accounting AND two (2) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.

OR

Bachelor's degree in any discipline AND four (4) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.

OR

Associate's degree AND six (6) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.

OR

High School diploma AND eight (8) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.

OR

One year as a Financial Manager I with the State of Vermont.

OR

Certification as a CPA.

Preferred Qualifications

Special consideration may be given to those candidates with advanced skills in Excel, as well as experience in VISION and VTHR.
