Overview

The Financial Administrator II will be part of the Financial Operations team within the Administration and Innovation Division of the Department of Environmental Conservation.  This position is pivotal in providing accurate and timely financial reports to all of the programs in the department as well as department wide reporting to assist management in monitoring the financial activity of the Department.  This position is also responsible for preparing and tracking the billing and payment for services provided by various programs, as well as preparing monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts managed by the Department. 

The Financial Administrator II provides support to the other staff in the Financial Operations team including filling in as a backup for various other duties.  This position also assists in performing routine accounting functions periodically in the VISION accounting system (the State of Vermont's PeopleSoft financial system), processing invoices, and assisting in the month end closing process.  

Candidates must be highly proficient in accounting practices, expert in excel, including pivot tables and/or power pivot, in addition to being detail oriented.  Candidates must also be able to work independently with strong time management, communication and administrative skills.  We are looking for someone who enjoys working a diverse work environment and has the ability to effectively multi-task with a high degree of accuracy

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.

OR

Bachelor's degree in accounting OR bachelor's degree in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 20 college credit hours in accounting.

OR

20 college credit hours in accounting AND two (2) years or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.

OR

Two years of full-time college coursework OR an associate's degree in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field AND two (2) years or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.

OR

One (1) year or more as a Financial Administrator I with the State of Vermont.

OR

Certification as a CPA.
