Title: Fiber Optic Project Manager

Overview
The Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB) Fiber Optic Project Manager is responsible for reviewing, suggesting improvements, and performing an as-built review of grant funded middle and last mile fiber optic networks. It is the responsibility of the Project Manager to assist and support the Communication Union Districts and other grant recipients with existing and ongoing projects. As these projects progress, the professional needs to identify Outside Plant technical problems and assist with innovative solutions. The position will ensure engineering discipline to plans, and assist in design and redesign of networks, and facilities. Additionally, the position will provide support in construction budgets and assisting the CUDs with technology challenges and compliance to standards and specifications. They will work with drafting and GIS personnel to ensure as-built designs are documented properly. The Project Manager will ensure all network quality requirements are followed by grant recipients. The position will also advise on issues related to make-ready, assist in the development of Broadband Equity Access Deployment (BEAD) Five year plan, and complement the work of the VCBB Fiber Optics and Grant Program Consultants. Knowledge of outside plant construction techniques must be understood in depth to effectively handle issues related to fiber networking, routing, and network management.
This position offers the flexibility to work remotely, but field inspections of infrastructure across Vermont is required.

This is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized through 06/30/2025. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors
Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be required for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years or more of experience in fiber optic construction, installation, maintenance, or project management.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
Project management and supervisory experience.
