Mission and Work of the Commission
VCW is an independent non-partisan state government commission working to advance rights and opportunities for women and girls. VCW provides advice and counsel to the legislative and executive branches through research, reports, data, testimony, and other communication; conducts public education to inform people of their rights and to advance gender equity; works in partnership to take action to improve the lives of Vermonters; and provides information and referrals to the public.

(VCW recognizes that gender is expansive and not binary, and our work includes those who identify as women, girls, transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, gender-questioning, and anyone who has experienced marginalization, bias, or barriers due to their gender identity.)

This position supports the VCW mission through administrative and business management, communications management, and other special projects and duties as assigned. Types of work may include: managing all financial business operations in VISION and VTBuys systems (training provided); coordinating budget development and submission; managing office operations (supplies, technology, logistics of VCW meetings, support of VCW committees, contracts, grants, etc.); producing and distributing an electronic newsletter; writing and distributing press releases; coordinating publication and distribution of VCW materials; maintaining VCW websites (no coding required); developing and maintaining contact lists; and responding to calls, emails, and other requests for information, as well as public records requests.

Work is done under the direction of the Executive Director and in active collaboration with other staff and members of the Commission. Working effectively as part of a team is critical; as well, the ability to work independently, take initiative, solve problems, and be resourceful is essential. VCW is a hybrid work environment, with work being done both in person and remotely.

VCW is especially interested in candidates who contribute to our diversity and commitment to fostering an environment of mutual respect, acceptance, and equal opportunity. We are seeking people of all genders and backgrounds who are passionate about dismantling structural inequities; dedicated to improving economic, social, health, and legal conditions for women; and committed to a vision of Vermont that embraces all people who live here. Our work is best when a rich array of voices is included, and a shared mission and values exist.
