The Waste Management and Prevention Division is seeking an individual who has strong organizational and communication skills (both orally and in writing) and who is interested in working in a fast-paced program.

The Sites Management Section (SMS) is a high functioning technical program focused on protection of human health and the environment through the regulation and cleanup of hazardous material releases to the environment (soil, groundwater, surface water, indoor air, sediments). The SMS regulates and provides technical state oversight to the investigation and remediation of releases on all types of hazardous waste sites ranging from gas stations to Brownfields to Superfund Sites. This position will be a mix of state regulated sites, assisting with brownfields redevelopment sites and/or field oversight at superfund sites.

This is an entry level position with the SMS. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines, be an effective team collaborator, be able to conduct periodic site visits, be able to communicate technical information effectively both orally and in writing, be knowledgeable of federal and state laws, rules, and policies applicable to hazardous sites, be knowledgeable of scientific principles including those of hydrogeology and geology, be knowledgeable of contaminant properties including environmental behavior. Job duties include reviewing and commenting on technical documents, assisting stakeholders (developers, attorneys, lenders, EPA, Regional Planning Commissions, environmental consultants, responsible parties, and other partners), managing all aspects of a mixed caseload of hazardous sites, and assisting with special projects as assigned. If you multitask well and are familiar with the complexities associated with brownfield development or environmental site assessment and cleanup, this might be the job you have been looking for.
