Overview
Come join the busy Elections Division team in the Office of the Secretary of State. Duties include: Responding to inquiries regarding election administration from candidates, political parties, town clerks, researchers, and the public; overseeing administration of the campaign finance disclosure process, including management of the online disclosure system and conducting weekly sessions to educate candidates on the statutory requirements and filing process; administering the political party organization statute; overseeing the candidate petition filing process for all statewide elections and assisting in administration of the elections database for all candidate information, ballot production, and election results for all statewide primary, general and special elections. This position will also design and conduct regular training sessions for town and city clerks on all aspects of election administration law and policy. Responsibilities may require overtime on nights and weekends, especially on or around Election Day. Duties often must be performed on strict deadlines in accordance with the election law. Environmental Factors
Work is performed within the Secretary of State's Office in a hybrid manner. Work is performed in a standard office setting, but some training of local officials around the state. Work outside of normal duty hours may be required to meet deadlines for certain projects, and considerable work outside of normal duty hours is mandatory to administer statewide elections in the summer and fall of each even-numbered year. Work is often under strict deadlines and with a high level of public scrutiny. THIS IS A STRESSFUL JOB.
Considerable interaction with a wide variety of individuals requires tact and diplomacy to balance competing viewpoints and priorities.
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctor
OR
Bachelor’s degree or higher in law, political science, business, public policy, or public administration AND three (3) years’ experience with the following experience: interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations, and data collection and analysis.
OR
Three (3) years’ experience as an Elections Administrator II.
Preferred Qualifications
