Overview

The Agency of Education (AOE) is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist II to be responsible for web content development and editing, email marketing and knowledge base management. This position will support web content projects of varying scope and complexity while supporting the Agency's mission to support Vermont's students and education systems. This role will work closely with AOE teams across all divisions (including Agency leadership) to ensure that the AOE's web content is accurate, up to date, and accessible to all web users.

 

This position is part of the communications team and reports to the Director of Policy, Strategy, and Communications. In addition, this position will collaborate with AOE's public information officers (PIOs) and Media and Storytelling specialist to build effective and exciting multi-media communications campaigns and will assist with AOE email communications to school district leadership, educators and other external partners. Competitive candidates will be highly organized, detail oriented, and committed to solid content design and execution. Work is performed using the State of Vermont's Drupal-based content management system and email marketing and listserv systems (e.g. Mailchimp).

 

The Agency is also legally bound and strongly committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users; this position should have a sound understanding of the principles of accessible design and Section 504/508 compliance and will serve as an internal champion for digital accessibility within the Agency and across state government.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting, or in schools, community centers or other non-industrial sites. The position may involve significant travel for outside meetings or field work, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required. This position is subject to State Personnel Policies and Agency of Education guidelines for telework, however in-person office attendance or fieldwork may be required as necessary to support the Agency’s communications goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, computer science, web or graphic design, political science, education, or related field AND three (3) or more years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field.
OR 
Five (5) years or more of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field.
OR 
One (1) year experience as Digital Communications Specialist I with the Agency of Education.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in media and client relations or public policy with strong focus in digital, web or social media.

Experience with or knowledge of HTML, email marketing systems such as Mail Chimp or Constant Contact, the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and/or Adobe Acrobat DC pro.

Prior experience with the Agency of Education or other State government Agencies.
