Overview

This position is based in Montpelier, but we currently offer a hybrid schedule and encourage employees to work remotely whenever possible.

If so the Agency of Digital Services team supporting the Vermont Agency of Education has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, Database Administrator. In support of the Agency mission to provide Leadership, Support and Oversight to education in the state of Vermont, the ADS team is responsible for the design, development and implementation of IT infrastructure to make this all possible.
This position will be responsible to lead the architecture, development and management of a centralized, sustainable data environment that will serve as the foundation for the Agency's data collection, management, transformation and reporting needs. The position will work closely with the ADS/AOE team, vendor contractors and project management professionals to manage a cohesive system of datasets and processes. This position will be responsible for the operations and management of MS SQL including Analysis Services, Master Data Services, Integration Services and Reporting Services, data base monitoring and performance tuning.
Specific Duties of the Database Administrator will include:
• Lead the development and evolution of the Enterprise Data Environment
• Development of RESTful APIs to serve various web tools and applications
• Collaborate with IT team to define the collection of tools/technology used to provide comprehensive solutions
• Collaborate with third party vendors to ensure alignment with current and future IT direction
• Meet with AOE staff to understand business process and development needs
• Collaborate with IT and business teams using agile methodologies, version control systems (Git) and work collaboration tools
• Research and application of leaning of new tools and methodologies
This position reports directly to the ADS Agency Director of Digital Services for AOE and will closely with the ADS team.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting and there is considerable interaction with users and members of project teams requiring tact and diplomacy to balance competing views. Work outside of regular 7:45am - 4:30pm schedule can be anticipated often requiring work to be performed before or after workday so that it does not impact system availability to users.

Some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science AND two years or more experience in database administration;

OR
Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits AND four years or more experience in database administration;

OR
High school diploma or equivalent AND six years or more experience in database administration.

NOTE: Database administration is defined as the design, installation, configuration, monitoring, security, and maintenance of an organization's databases. Professional database administration utilizes standards, best practices, documented repeatable procedures, and is based on database theory. Administered databases may be relational (RDBMS), local, cloud-based, NoSQL, or other types.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Database design and data modeling
• Knowledge of data warehousing methodologies
• Experience with MS SQL including SQL including Analysis Services, Master Data Services, Integration Services and Reporting Services
• Ability to design and build robust ETL processes
• Experience in the development of RESTful APIs to serve various web tools and applications
• Ability to collaborate with third party vendors to ensure alignment with current and future IT direction
• Collaborate with IT and business teams using agile methodologies, version control systems (Git) and work collaboration tools
• Ability to collaborate with teams to define the collection of tools/technology used to provide comprehensive solutions
• Ability to research and investigate new solutions
