Overview

The Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC) hosted at the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Grants Coordinator (Agriculture Development Specialist I). The NE-DBIC is a federally funded grant program which supports regional dairy across the 11 states of the Northeast with funds targeted toward community and climate forward dairy production, sector innovation, and business assistance. 


This full-time position will focus on grant management, applicant and grantee stewardship, and reporting. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Contribute to the development of relevant and timely funding opportunities.
  • Conduct grant application review processes through coordination of external stakeholders.
  • Ongoing award management through support for grantee project adjustments, successfully developing and submitting reports, and ensuring completion of grantee project deliverables.
  • Develop, track, and report on program metrics. Evaluation of grant program impacts through data collection and synthesis. 
  • Ongoing communication and coordination with NE-DBIC team and the greater dairy sector to ensure consistent messaging, support the development of strong reporting, and provide clear and accessible information to applicants and grantees.

 

We are looking for a candidate with excellent written and oral communication skills who can synthesize complex ideas in plain language and communicate effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders, including farmers. This role is ideal for an individual who is organized, self-directed, and enjoys working with a team.

The position is based in Montpelier, VT. Telework options are available to employees in the Agricultural Development Division.

This classified limited service position is funded by multi-year federal grants, and is currently funded through 9/30/2026.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of settings, including open floorplan office, producer and market sites, and public events, project sites and potential hearing settings. Some in-state and limited regional, out-of-state travel is involved for which private reliable means of transportation must be available. Occasional public communication, both verbally and in writing is required. An incumbent must coordinate activities with other departmental staff and interact considerably with agricultural and land development business people, interest groups and the general public. Certain required activities may occur outside of normal office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND one (1) year or more of experience in agriculture, marketing, environmental conversation, communications, land use planning or another relevant closely related field
OR
Three (3) years or more of experience in agriculture, marketing, environmental conversation, communications, land use planning or another relevant field. 

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of Lean White Belt training.

Experience assisting in the annualized management of grant and program funding.
